A Message from OCEANS 2020 Gulf Coast
Hello and welcome to Mississippi, or for some of you, welcome back. This year marks the 3rd time this century that Biloxi, Mississippi has been host to the joint MTS/IEEE OES North American OCEANS Conference, and we couldn’t be more excited!
The theme for our “2020” conference is VISIONS FOR THE BLUE ECONOMY – which underscores our motivation to convey how important the marine world is in expanding our economic growth. Our technical program will highlight some of the countless interactions we have with the ocean, whether academic in nature or industrial, citizen science or advanced naval tech. The maritime activity along our coastline is greatly increasing, highly innovative, and you need to see it to believe it!
Several events planned during the week are bound to leave you enlightened and motivated. A brilliant exhibit hall will be on hand to display cutting-edge technology, while the student poster competition will showcase what the next generation researchers are achieving. In addition, a young professional program and an engineering challenge will empower the up and coming scientists of our community. Multiple keynote speakers will focus on everything from Blue Economic impact, to Navy and NOAA operations, to technology resource management challenges, to how major disasters have improved our proactive response. You will see unmanned systems used in every which way, and you will leave with a new vision about how the changes in the collection of global Earth observations are leading to the most advanced ocean prediction capability to date!
Not only will the week highlight how we embrace our Gulf of Mexico, but it will give you an appreciation for our biodiversity, our initiatives in coastal zone resource management, and our efforts to preserve and improve our way of life. We hope you indulge in the outstanding local restaurants, explore the excellent Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention Center, be amazed in the dazzling Beau Rivage Hotel & Resort, and experience a peaceful, comforting sunset along the tranquil beachfront.
OCEANS 2020 Gulf Coast was planned and coordinated by an outstanding committee of MTS and IEEE-OES members, and we deeply appreciate and recognize the efforts and dedication of all of them. On behalf of the MTS and IEEE-OES sponsoring Societies, thank you for your support and participation. We also extend our special thanks to the distinguished service men and women, our international delegates, the Senators and Congressmen and women, industrial exhibitors, authors and session chairs, for making this event a memorable one.
Hoping to see you soon!
